UPCOMING EVENTS:

Oberlin Convention and Visitors Bureau

WHO is CVB (Convention and Visitors Bureau)?

  • CVB is a seven-member volunteer board appointed by the Mayor of Oberlin to assist in promoting Oberlin.
  • We are funded by tax dollars collected from travelers who spent the night in one of Oberlin’s lodging facilities.
  • Regular meetings are held on the second Thursday of each month at noon in the Economic Development building at 124 N. Penn Avenue.

WHAT do we do, and what are the guidelines for getting a grant?

  • Assist in financing local organizations that produce events that encourage overnight stays in an Oberlin lodging facility.
  • The guidelines for receiving a grant are designed to include information on the potential increase in non-residential attendees.
  • Advertise in magazines that reach the traveling public.
  • Produce promotional material for statewide distribution.
  • Promote media promotional materials. For example, we participate in Smoky Hill PBS’s current series, “Cottonwood Connection.” This series airs on Sunday evenings and is repeated throughout the week.
  • Look for ways to continue expanding the “footprint” of our community throughout the state.

HOW do we operate?

  • Grant application forms are available HERE or at the City of Oberlin offices. Completed forms can be returned to the city office.
  • The board reviews grant requests, and recommendations are made to the City for funding.
  • No application will be considered after an event has occurred.
  • Please turn in applications by the last day of the month before our regular meeting. Applications must be submitted and reviewed before the event.
  • A Final Grant Report is also required. This form tells us about your event and helps us plan for future budgets and promotional opportunities. It must be filed within a month of the project’s completion.
